Hue, Saturation and Lightness
Hue/Saturation is a very convenient tool for adjusting your images. This command in Photoshop Elements enables you to adjust the colors in your image based on their hue, saturation, and lightness. Hue is the color in your image. Saturation is the intensity, or richness, of that color. And lightness controls the brightness value.
Hue: It is the color reflected from or transmitted through an object. It is measured as a location on the standard color wheel, expressed as a degree between 0° and 360°. In common use, hue is identified by the name of the color, such as red, orange, or green.
Saturation: It is the strength or purity of the color. Saturation represents the amount of gray in proportion to the hue, measured as a percentage from 0% (gray) to 100% (fully saturated). On the standard color wheel, saturation increases from the center to the edge.
Lightness: It is the relative lightness or darkness of the color, usually measured as a percentage from 0% (black) to 100% (white).
Following few points will be useful while using hue, saturation and lightness:
1. You can use this command even to a selected region. For this you have to select a region with the selection tool. If no selection is active, the adjustments will apply to the whole image.
2. To use Hue/Saturation command choose image > adjustment > hue/saturation.
3. To get a better idea of the adjustments you're doing, we recommend you to activate the Preview option. It permits you to see the changes in background.
