Renaming Files
You can quickly rename a file by clicking on its name and typing a new one. You can even press Tab to go to the next file in the list and rename it as well. That makes it very easy to rename an entire folder of images. If you'd like to do that even faster, then make sure you don't have any files highlighted in Bridge and choose Batch Rename from the Tools menu as shown in Figure below. This is where you can automatically rename an entire folder's worth of images. This is great for when you get images off a digital camera where you get odd filenames like 09864-01.JPG. Just use Batch Rename and specify the naming convention you'd like to use by changing the pop-up menus that appear in the Batch Rename dialog box. I usually set the first choice to Text and enter something like "Ben's Vacation," then click the plus sign next to that to add a second choice, which I set to Sequence Number-Three Digits, and then add a third choice, which I set to Current File Name-Extension. That way, all the images end up being named "Ben's Vacation 00X.jpg," where the X is a unique number for each image.
